Visibility Mapping

ZTV Analysis

Zone of Theoretical Visibility (ZTV) maps are the foundation of any visual impact assessment. Before any site photography takes place, we use GIS data to calculate exactly where your proposal will be visible from.

Our Methodology

Precise Calculations.

We utilise Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and Digital Surface Models (DSM) to generate visibility maps:

Bare Earth ZTV

Calculates visibility based on terrain only. This represents the "worst-case scenario" assuming no trees or buildings exist to screen the view.

Screened ZTV

Incorporates LiDAR data to account for woodland, hedgerows, and existing buildings, providing a more realistic "Visual Envelope."

Strategic Planning

Determine your viewpoints.

A ZTV is essential for agreeing on a list of viewpoints with the Local Planning Authority (LPA). By presenting a ZTV early, you demonstrate a rigorous approach to site selection and impact mitigation.
